Major: Media and Society
Through the Media and Society Department, I analyzed how media influences individuals and society as a whole. My concentration is in film, television, and new media.
Studying Media and Society has taught me to adapt to a fast, ever-changing environment. I learned skills on how to effectively analyze different mediums in their ability to reflect and influence societal culture. It helps us understand the workings of our world and our individual places in it.
A few of my many media projects I have created and helped create during my studies:
Coco Care commercial- In my Cultures of Advertising course, my group and I were given the product group "food". We were then asked to come up with a product in that group and develop a video commercial to advertise it.
Criterion Collection DVD Cover- Utilizing the film Mustang, I constructed a Criterion Collection style DVD cover for the course, Global Cinema.
Stop Motion Animation Project- In the course, Intro to Global Animation, we were placed into groups and assigned the project of constructing a stop motion animation. We had full authority in the content, and my group and I decided to create a stop motion animation accentuating the influence and pressures that media has on an individual's decisions.
Film Trailer- One of the many video editing assignments within my Film Editing II course was to take the raw footage from the short film, Red Princess Blues, and create a film trailer.
Minor: Entrepreneurial Studies
Through the Entrepreneurial Studies Department, I learned skills to become a successful innovator and leader. I learned these skills through the learning process of learning the theories of and creating new ventures.
The most valuable and marketable skill that I acquired through my studies in the Entrepreneurial Studies Department is effective communication. Being able to effectively and concisely convey an idea or thought is critical to all aspects of life, especially leadership. It is a leader's communication skills that motivate and inspire group members to work hard to get to the common goal. The Entrepreneurial Studies Department has given me the backbone and skills to continue to grow the effectiveness of my communication.
What type of professional leader do you plan on becoming?
My ultimate goal is to create and develop my own business. Being a business owner would position me as a professional leader. I want to lead by example and foster an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone succeeds and grows.
